15 Weeks for Baby M

Today marks 15 weeks for baby M.

Week 15: Naval Orange
Average size: 4.0 in, 2.5 oz

M now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple or orange). M's busy moving amniotic fluid through the nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in M's lungs begin to develop. M's legs are growing longer than the arms now, and M can move all joints and limbs. Although eyelids are still fused shut, M can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at my tummy, for instance, M's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for M to taste at this point, but M is forming taste buds. Finally, if I were to have an ultrasound this week, one may be able to find out whether M is a boy or a girl! (But we aren't so you all are out of luck!)

I have posted a voting button on the right side of the blog where you can vote for whether you think baby M will be a Boy or Girl. Not sure if you can vote multiple times or what. You all have until September to cast your vote. So let your voice be heard!

The Boss on Board with Baby

I know this is going to sound funny but bear with me. The Boss has been asking I mean begging for a baby for about a year and a half now. So I figured the minute I told him we were having a baby he would be over the moon. Well that wasn't really the response I got. I would talk about the baby to him but he would just kind of blow me off like "yeah right mom whatever!" I don't think he believed me after so long of wanting one. He has known for awhile now. We decided to take him to my second appointment. I was thrilled when Dr. Mundy wanted to do an ultrasound so both Daddy and the Boss would be able to see little M. The Boss really thought it was cool to see the baby, but even after that he didn't get super excited like I expected...until last night July 18th. Something clicked and now he wants to tell the world and do everything for the baby. Last night he wanted to hug my belly, kiss my belly, he even sang songs and talked to the baby. He put Friday (his stuffed monkey)to sleep on my belly so the baby would have company. I thought all this was maybe cause he was over tired from a long weekend, but no he did the same things this morning when he woke up. He even wanted to give me some of his breakfast so the baby could grow.
He is being so sweet. I hope he stays this excited throughout the next 6 months and beyond.

Appointment #2

Today was appointment #2 with my wonderful OB/GYN Dr. Mundy. I really do think he is a great Doctor. Even though it is 30 minutes to the medical center to see him and parking is outrageous in the garages up there I can't imagine going to anyone else. We decided after some deliberation to bring Maddox along with us. I wasn't exactly sure what all they would do at this visit since I had an ultrasound at my first visit but we decided we would see anyway. We got there and went back to the room. I did the usually baby appt stuff. One of those things is the scale... not my favorite part. I do have to brag a little bit on myself so far. Through the first trimester I have not gained a single pound. I have actually lost a couple of them and it is not for lack of eating. It feels like that is all that I do lately. So after that Dr. Mundy comes in and says "Hey why don't you guys go down the hall and get and ultrasound and I will meet you back here in a bit." So we head down the hall for our picture show. Maddox wanted to know why the lady turned out the lights and the TV was dark. I think he was really excited seeing the baby on the screen. M4 moved for us a bit. It looked like there was some thumb sucking going on. It looked like M4 has some long legs but that could have just been the position. Everything looked good on the screen. Heart was beating baby was moving around. It was beautiful.

After the ultrasound the Doctor came in for a brief question/answer and said all looked well he would see us in another 4 weeks. After we left there we went to visit Uncle Nate at MD Anderson. He is improving every day. Maddox can't wait till he gets in a regular room so that he can see him too. He really has fell in love with Nate's wife and family though. I am sure we will all be lonesome when they finally go home. In the meantime, please say a prayer for Nate's healing! We really appreciate it.

Before and After

Sorry these aren't the greatest of before and after pictures but this is all I have. I once again decided to donate my extra long thick locks for a good cause. This time it is the Pantene Beautiful Lengths campaign that will receive my long ponytail.
